How to Build A Better Comic

Everybody who has a comic wants to make their comic better. The best possible way to get better, aside from practice, is to see how the pros do it and see if it works for you.

If there aren't any pros around, you can ask me.

On the left, you'll find the step-by-step guide to making a Stupor Hero comic. On the right, you'll find out how to do it better. Click around and absorb whatever is useful.

The Stupor Hero Way
Another Way

Sketching your idea

The concept, the layout, and the general flow all come together in the planning stages. Otherwise, you're building a skyscraper without a blueprint.

Drawing - Pencils and Inks

Basic drawing, then inking your own work and cleanup. If someone else is doing your inking, here's how to do that, too.

Scanning

Transferring paper to pixels requires a litte bit of finesse and finagling. Then there's more...

Using digital screentones

Completely optional, but it's a quick and easy (e.g. "lazy") way to enhance the negative space of your frames.

Shades and colors

Again, it's optional. Enhancing your comic with these can add depth and improve the overal aesthetic of your strip.

Lettering

Speech balloons, sound effects, captions, and other things to read.

The art of the lazy-assed comic

If you're pressed for time, real life is getting in your way, and you desperately need to stay on schedule...
